North Oshawa Lions Club

Our Club

Our club #014615 was chartered April 23, 1970 as the "North Oshawa Lions Club" and now is one of two Lions Club in Oshawa. We are now one of 55 clubs in Lions District 16 of Multiple District "A".

Activities

We operate three Young Offender Detention Homes and a Drop in Center in Ontario for the Provincial Government through our charitable foundation "The Murray McKinnon Foundation".

We help support many groups in the area such as Big Brothers/Sisters, Boys and Girls Club of Oshawa, Simcoe Hall Settlement House Christmas Fund, and the Salvation Army Christmas Fund and also have assisted individuals with special needs.

An official Lions Clubs International Eyeglass Recycling Program provides recycled eyewear free of charge to people in developing countries. Our club has helped collect eye glasses for this program for many years sending them off to our "Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centre".

Also like most of the Lions and Lioness in our District we support our "Lions Clubs Camp Kirk Foundation". This is a Lions District 16 project located on about 100 acres near Kirkfield, Ontario, which the Foundation owns and maintains. "Camp Kirk" which is a camp for children with learning disabilities is operated during the summer season on this property by the "Friends of the Learning Disabled".

Fund Raising

Like all charitable groups, the ability of our club to assist those individuals in need and support the many deserving organizations and projects, is totally dependent on the success of our fund raising activities.

The largest fund raiser we have is our annual draw and for the last few years this has been a classic car draw. Each year we look around and through our many contacts purchase a car to raffle. We hold the draw for this car at the annual "Auto Fest" car show held each August here in Oshawa. Check out the link to this annual draw for the current car and winners from the past.

Another fund raiser that we have carried on for many years has been the marketing of plastic wrap and foil. This we provide to many groups such as hockey or soccer teams schools or choirs, etc. who in turn use it to raise needed funds for their groups. Check out the link to this great fund raiser.

Of course at Easter we have our chocolate "Lions Easter Bunnies" and at Christmas we have the "Lions Christmas Cakes". If you would like any of these just get hold of any of the contacts listed anywhere on this site and they will we happy to help you.
